Barrier protection makes use of materials that shields concrete from water admittance. Applied directly to the surface of concrete floors and walls, barrier protection gives existing concrete structures an added layer of waterproofing that will greater lengthen the longevity of the concrete itself. Concrete Remedial Systems provides multiple types of waterproofing, helping to protect basements, commercial buildings, car parks, stadiums and all manner of properties from water damage.
Without sufficient waterproofing measures in place, concrete is prone to structural damage caused by water retention. As water can permeate a concrete structure in a number of ways, more than one type of waterproofing may be necessary to keep concrete dry. Waterproofing can prevent water from getting in from outside while also protecting the concrete from moisture that collects on the inside through condensation.
Concrete absorbs moisture and once water is retained within the structure, it starts to cause problems. The thaw-freeze cycle causes the greatest damage as water expands when frozen, creating cracks in the concrete. Even the smallest cracks are an issue that need addressing as this allows water to reach deeper within the concrete. As the water damage goes deep, it becomes more and more costly to repair.
Damp concrete also invites mould spores to grow, leading to further issues that can make repairs and renovations a real issue further down the line.
We have carried out over 10,000 concrete repair projects.
We have successfully carried out works for over 1000 companies.
We have strong relationships with the majority of concrete repair material suppliers including Remmers, Deneef, Sika, Resapol.
Under BS8102:2022 code of practice, barrier protection is classed as type A waterproofing for the protection of below ground structures against water from the ground. Concrete builds that are below the water table are prone to free water finding a way into the subterranean room through any gaps in the waterproofing. For older buildings that aren’t constructed under the new regulations, the structures will not have the same level of waterproofing from external barriers. Type A helps protect the concrete from water and moisture that enters the space with a view that this free water can then be drained away to prevent damp.
Cementitious waterproof coatings protect against ingress. In an event where there isn’t sufficient structural protection, applying a coating to the concrete floor will shield against penetrating water. These coatings are layered on the surface using specialist tools to ensure an even and complete coat. This coating bonds to the concrete, hardening to form a tanking membrane.
Our concrete specialists use a combination of products to achieve the highest level of waterproofing for concrete structures vulnerable to water ingress. We use cementitious coating 851, Hydrocoat Tanking slurry and Vandex BB57 for different purposes to ensure complete protection.

We have to look at each project individually but generally for the application of waterproof coatings and the sealing of service penetrations we would offer a 10 year guarantee.
For most projects we would insist on visiting site and having a walk round with the customer so we get a full understanding of the requirements and the physical condition of the items we will repair.
